Description

MPA is currently embarking on a joint venture with Cahya Mata Sarawak Berhad ( CMS) and Tradewinds Plantation Sdn Bhd (TPB) through the incorporation of Malaysian Phosphate Additives (Sarawak) Sdn Bhd (MPAS) to construct a new Integrated Phosphate plant in Samalaju Industrial Park in Sarawak. The total investment of this plant is RM2.2 billion. The shareholding in MPAS is MPA (40%), CMS (40%) and TPB (20%). Khazanah National Bhd is currently holding 40% equity stake through its wholly owned subsidiary, Malaysian Technology Development Corp (MTDC).

The Samalaju Complex, when constructed and fully commissioned, will be the first integrated phosphate plant in Malaysia and Southeast Asia. The Samalaju Complex will produce a range of phosphate products including food phosphates, animal feed phosphates, fertiliser phosphates, ammonia and coke.

The Samalaju Complex, being an “integrated complex”, will link the various primary process plants to achieve maximum synergies in term of energy and mass balance on a continuous basis as well as upgrading of intermediate by-product streams to higher value added products and having greater flexibility on modes of operations. This allows the Samalaju Complex to employ its resources effectively and to minimise costs, while giving it the ability to dynamically adjust production according to prevailing market demand for different grade phosphate products.

The integrated phosphate complex will have an annual capacity of 500,000 tonne of food, feed and fertiliser phosphates, making it the largest in South-East Asia, adding that it would also produce 100,000 tonne of ammonia and 900,000 tonne of coke.

COMPANY PROFILE
MPA was incorporated in 23 May 2001. Our principal business is in the manufacturing of feed and fertiliser phosphate products and it has a 30,000 MTPA phosphate plan in Lumut, Perak, Malaysia.

MPA first started construction of its Lumut Plant in 2003 and commenced its phosphate business in 2005. MPA Lumut Plant is the pioneer in the manufacturing of feed phosphate (namely DCP and MDCP) in Malaysia and Southeast Asia. MPA produce its feed phosphate using fertiliser grade phosphoric acid and high grade limestone from the Kinta Valley of Malaysia.

Our Lumut Plant has since been upgraded to produce its own phosphoric acid for the manufacture of food and feritiliser phosphate. The diversity of products arises from the synergies in production of MPA’s own fertiliser grade phosphoric acid. To date, MPA has expanded and diversified its product range to include feed, food and fertilizer phosphate.

MPA Lumut Plant is located in Lumut Port Industrial Park, approximately 700 meters from the Lumut Maritime Terminal jetty which has a draft of 9.3 meters and is strategically located for the import of bulk raw materials and export of finished products.

MPA’s feed phosphate is mineral based and therefore free from meat and bone meal which are precursors to transmissible diseases such as the mad cow disease. MPA’s standard feed grades are in compliance with EU standards which stipulates the impurities level for Fluorine, Arsenic, Cadmium, Lead and Mercury to be less than 0.2%, 10 ppm, 10 ppm, 30 ppm and 0.1 ppm respectively. In addition, MPA also produces higher grades of purity feed phosphate with lower heavy metals content, thus differentiating MPA’s products from competing peers, and enables them to penetrate the Australian and some Southeast Asian markets.

With our years of proven technology and the successful production of the above products, MPA is now able to derive synergies between food, feed and fertiliser phosphate products and realize the full value of its soluble phosphates from its Lumut Plant. Since our inception, years, MPA has been successful in marketing its products to more than 10 export countries.
